The NDDOT is using Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) increasingly to provide travelers with pertinent road, weather, and construction information. Initially, ATAC assisted the NDDOT in developing practices for appropriate usage and formatting of messages. However, the NDDOT did not have a comprehensive statewide standard for DMS.
This project developed DMS Guidelines that cover the procurement, design, installation and operations of DMS in the state to ensure all aspects meet national and state standards.
