| Fargo-Moorhead Regional ITS Architecture Update | |
| Dates: | April 2007 - November 2007 |
|---|---|
| Clients: | Fargo-Moorhead Metro Council of Governments |
| Description: | ATAC is working with the FM COG on updating the Fargo-Moorhead Regional ITS Architecture (RA). The RA provides a comprehensive framework for supporting ITS deployment by defining services, developing system requirements, identifying information flows, coordinating agency roles, and integrating functions across jurisdictional lines. The original F-M RA was completed in 2005 by ATAC. The update will address changes affecting the transportation system in the region as well as account for successfully deployed systems since 2005. |

| Evaluation of Red River Bridge FAST | |
| Dates: | October 2006 - December 2007 |
|---|---|
| Clients: | NDDOT |
| Description: | NDDOT installed its second Fixed Automated Sprayer Technology (FAST) system at the Red River ridge on I-94 along the North Dakota-Minnesota state border. Installation began in September 2005 and was completed in January 2006. Anti-icing systems represent promising technology for enhancing the safety and mobility of travelers with several more systems planned for installation throughout the state of North Dakota. In keeping with the national strategy of performance evaluation of ITS projects, ATAC is conducting an evaluation study of the FAST system at the Red River bridge. The evaluation methodology follows federal ITS project evaluation guidelines and focuses on capturing lessons learned, documenting system costs and benefits, and identifying any technical or institutional issues. The aim of this evaluation study is to provide reference and guidance to the NDDOT and other states to support future installations of FAST systems. |

| North Dakota Dept of Transportation DMS Guidelines | |
| Dates: | April 2006 - December 2007 |
|---|---|
| Clients: | NDDOT |
| Description: | The NDDOT is increasingly using Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) to provide travelers with pertinent road, weather, and construction information. ATAC assisted the NDDOT previously to develop the DMS Composer software to assist NDDOT staff in developing DMS messages. However, the NDDOT did not have did not have a statewide standard for using DMS. This project aims at developing DMS Guidelines to ensure DMS installation and operations meet national and state standards. The NDDOT DMS Guidelines address DMS design, installation, and operations and identify authorized uses. Once the guidelines are finalized, they will be implemented as NDDOT standard practice to ensure consistency across the state. |
